A young American woman, Muriel Colber, arrives in Spain in the late 1980s to work on her doctoral dissertation about Jesús Galíndez. She begins investigating the mystery of the 1956 disappearance of Galíndez, a Basque living in exile in the United States in the wake of the Spanish Civil War, and her discoveries in Santo Domingo and New York soon put her life in danger from those responsible for his death.
