Cantinflas is working as a shoeshine man in Chapultepec Park. When his godson's father is killed in a construction accident, he tries to be a father to the boy. After many adventures, he winds up as a lifeguard at a luxury hotel.

Cantinflas is in the Air Force and all he wants to do is return home to his girlfriend, a maid in a fancy hacienda. However when he finally gets a leave, the owner of the estate arranges a wedding between him and his very ugly daughter. When Cantinflas returns to finish his military service he gets himself imprisoned for insubordination to get out of the marriage. While in prison he learns to fly with an instructor that is very unknowledgeable.
