Follows the lives of J.E.B. Stuart (Flynn), George Custer (Reagan) and other characters as they leave West Point in the years before the Civil War. Some join John Brown's army of fanatics and sincere reformers; others are sent by the army to quash John Brown. The climax is the Battle of Harper's Ferry that began the War between the States.
