General Note
As a young page to the Queen of Portugal, Ferdinand Magellan longed to explore new lands. Finally, he was sent to Africa, then to India and the far-off spice lands. There he found danger wherever he went. Later he tried to circle the globe, and succeeded in finding a passage to the New World.
