Description
A biography of the black man who became both a famous singer and a controversial figure in world politics. A biography of this talented actor, singer, and athlete whose career suffered for his civil rights activities and Communist affiliations. The story of Robeson's life is interspersed with the philosophies of other major black figures including Marcus Garvey & W.E.B. du Bois, along with their ideas on handling discrimination. Robeson's troubles during the McCarthy era are also covered. Students will be surprised to see how his freedom was curtailed because he spoke out about topics that were unpopular at the time. Part of the Black Americans of Achievement series.
