School Library Journal Review
PreS-K-This Emmy Award-winning series introduces preschoolers to the shapes and sounds of letters, helping them develop crucial early literacy skills such as print awareness and letter recognition. In this word-rich world, characters and scenery are created using the letters of the word they represent. For example, in one story, F-R-O-G has to fix his P-L-A-N-E by searching the jungle to find the missing letters, P and L. Each episode takes the viewer on a spelling adventure where the words are not just spelled but incorporated in sentences and used in situations that assist and encourage children to participate, helping them on their path to reading readiness. This latest installment has eight fun stories, which feature "things that go," from a truck in "Duck's Family Reunion" to a kite-flying ant in the "Flying Ant." Each episode includes situations that can be fixed only by creating words using the letters that the characters find. VERDICT This popular series is a must-have for public libraries.-Amy Joslyn, Fairport Public Library, NY © Copyright 2016. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
