Booklist Review

For those not in the know, Munchkin is a popular card game spoofing classic fantasy role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons. It's in that same snarky, skewering spirit that Siddel and Zub have created this new comic series, featuring monster-battlers, loot-grabbers, and backstabbers of all stripes. With their game plan handily noted on a scroll (Treasure = good; Monsters = BAD), Spyke and Flower destroy the Wights' dungeon over and over again, until they finally reach the Wights' lair, only to discover the big boss is not that scary at all. In fact, it's a potted plant. Meanwhile, some thrill seekers looking for sanity-smashing things you shouldn't go looking for uncover some Lovecraftian monsters (sort of), only to have their sanity smashed, as advertised. The over-the-top, manic artwork is stuffed with stylized figures, hilarious comic timing, and action worthy of an animated cartoon, giving it nice crossover appeal for TV fans. With plenty of self-referential jokes, pun-filled groaners, and cartoonish slapstick, even readers unfamiliar with the game will be rolling in the aisles.--Hunter, Sarah Copyright 2016 Booklist
