Description
In this love story set against the turmoil of the Civil War, a Northern school teacher (Clift) enlists in the Union army to search for his runaway bride (Taylor), a beautiful, but fragile Southern belle who fled to Georgia. But even as he risks his life on the battlefield, he finds that he must confront an even greater foe - his own conscience - in an inner struggle that will change his life forever.
