Description
Jane Addams helped immigrants by founding the first settlement house, Hull House, in Chicago. This is a thorough & well-organized book. It describes her efforts to challenge social conventions -- attending college during a time (the late 1800s) when few women had that opportunity. She later devoted her life to working to help the poor & change the attitudes & treatment of the less fortunate.
