In 1952, twenty-three year old medical student Ernesto Guevara de la Serna (later better known as Ernesto Che Guevara) just one semester away from graduation, decides to postpone his last semester to accompany his twenty-nine year old biochemist friend Alberto Granado on his four month, 8,000 km long dream motorcycle trip throughout South America starting from their home in Buenos Aires. Their quest is to see things they've only read about in books...

Although Mickey, a free-spirited New York cabbie, and his brother Francis, a materialistic Wall Street stockbroker, think they are happily married, they are extremely confused about women as a result of their father's misguided influence. When Francis becomes involved in an extramarital affair with Mickey's ex-fiancee Heather, the brothers' longtime sibling rivalry is triggered again, with uproarious and unexpected results.

Consists of a series of conversational duets that ultimately returns to the person who started the entire chain of events. Starting with prostitute Greta and her disgruntled trick Eddie. The story soon includes a housewife on the look for an affair, her husband, an artist, a gallery worker, and a salesman.
