Follows the continuing story of teacher Elizabeth Thatcher, widow Abigail Stanton, Constable Jack Thornton and the other residents of the 19th century Canadian coal mining company town of Coal Valley.

Elizabeth Thatcher is a strong-willed teacher who has foregone the life of the big city and found a job, a home (and a bit of unexpected romance with a handsome Mountie named Jack in the small frontier town of Hope Valley. But life on the frontier can hand you many tough turns, and so it is for Jack and Elizabeth as they face their very different upbringings, the pressures put upon them by family, rival suitors and even various criminal counterfeiters...

It is a very eventful time in Hope Valley. Starting with a hopeful Christmas, Elizabeth is finally reunited with Jack to celebrate a very special Christmas. Eventually, they plan and have the wedding of their dreams, much to the delight of the town. However, life is not a fairy tale, and soon Jack is called away on Mounties duties. Elizabeth continues to work with her students as Abigail rallies the town to assistance as the town bank fails.

Schoolteacher Elizabeth gets a fresh start with the handsome Mountie Jack after she reassures him that she declined the proposal from her childhood friend, and instead would like to try to make things work with Jack. Meanwhile, Elizabeth's close friend Abigail encounters a young orphan who has been stealing food. Abigail decides to show the boy kindness by taking care of him and his ill sister.

Deciding she needs more independence, Elizabeth moves out of her friend Abigail₂s home and into a new home of her own. While Jack is proud of Elizabeth's sense of independence, he is also conflicted as he had bought land in hopes of building a house for both of them. Abigail has concerns of her own, as problems arise with the orphan boy she took in. In addition, the entire town is shocked to learn that their new pastor has a criminal past.

Jennifer Shannon has a gift for finding rare treasures hidden in garage sales that she can resell at her consignment store, Rags to Riches. But her keen eye for finding valuables also gets her involved in the criminal investigations that happen at the very second-hand sales she frequents.
